Devised / PYL

PYL is the international group of artists working in the field of theatre and interdisciplinary arts.

The theater group was founded in 2018 by graduates of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theater in DAMU (Mariya Kamarova, Svetlana Silich, Theresa Schrezenmeir, Anna Gumbold-Romanova). Later, Veronika Svobodová joined. The group operates on the principles of devised theater and approaches staging practice through application of DIY methods, recycling and compilation principles and with a hint of irony.

The group develops its own visual language, which extends the meanings of scenography far beyond the theatre stage. PYL’s works are trying to shift cultural codes, contexts and origins of regular things, while transforming objects to beings and beings to objects. Working in PYL is almost like writing poetry, with no words but objects.

Materiality on vacation (workshop), 2023

Workshop, presenting strategies that lead to rethinking the view of the materiality of everyday objects and reveal the diversity of narratives that lie behind them. Participants had chance to explore other ways of communicating and being together through collective play with objects.
