“Ida” is a performance focused on exploring themes and atmospheres rather than following a traditional narrative storyline. We delve into scenes that depict a rural landscape distorted by the onset of socialism—endless labor, physical exhaustion, and the connection between people and the land. We channel anger and sorrow into work and celebrate the fragile, everyday joys found in a cup of white coffee, a cherry pie, fresh bread generously sprinkled with salt, or a gulp of ice-cold water from the well.
The performance features objects and text documents from pre-war and post-war years in Czechia, sourced from the personal archives of the creators. One such document is an article titled Bezmocné sobectví (Powerless Selfishness), published in a local newspaper — a denunciation of Iva’s great-grandfather. He refused to join the party, and they made his life difficult in every possible way.
It is based on the book Ida
